Winter Activities

A winter wonderland like no other, Whistler, British Columbia transforms into an outdoor playground for all ages to enjoy. An abundance of Whistler activities await you whether it be skiing or snowboarding, take hold of the adventure!

 Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding

Backcountry Programs
Let Whistler Blackcomb's experienced ACGM guides and instructors take you on a tour of Whistler's impressive backcountry. Pre-registration is required.

Cross Country Skiing
Overall Whistler offers an incredible 120+ kilometres of cross country trails ranging from beginner to expert.

  • Lost Lake trails travel through Lost Lake Park and alongside The Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club and the Nicklaus North Golf Course. Four kilometres of trails are also lit for night skiing. Minimal trail pass rates apply.
  • Ski Callaghan, which includes the Whistler Olympic Park - site of the Nordic events for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and Callaghan Country Lodge offer public cross country skiing on more than 90 kilometres of trails groomed for both classic and skate skiing. In addition, there are 20 kilometres of dedicated snowshoe trails.

Ice Skating - Outdoor at Olympic Plaza | Indoor at Meadow Park
Since its inaugural opening in December 2011, Whistler’s official outdoor skating rink has fast become an iconic experience for locals and visitors of all ages. Take in the exhilaration of Whistler’s surroundings while gliding across the celebrated venue of the Victory Ceremonies for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Hours of operation are daily from 11:00am to 9:00pm. Alternatively, enjoy indoor ice skating or drop-in hockey at Whistler's Meadow Park Sports Centre. Skate rentals are available at the arena.

Heli-Skiing
Heli-skiing is the perfect activity for intermediate and advanced skiers looking to add a thrilling new dimension to their ski vacation.

Snowmobiling
Tours are available for all levels of experience and qualified guides lead every tour. A fun and beautiful way to see the mountains and valley from a whole new point of view.

Snowshoeing
Trek along tranquil forest trails on snowshoes for an entirely new perspective on outdoor winter adventure in Whistler. Snowshoe Guides, instruction and rentals can all be booked through The Fairmont Chateau Whistler Concierge.

Summer Activities

Alpine Sightseeing
Ride high-tech lifts and fully enclosed gondola to the wonderful alpine world. High above the Village on Whistler Mountain you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through alpine meadows bursting with Wildflower and hike marked trails that lead to serene alpine lakes.

Summer programs include informal walks by qualified mountain hosts eager to share their knowledge of the local history, flora and fauna. The mountain also features seven designated hiking trails, each with varying degrees of difficulty and accessibility. Glacier tours are also available in the early summer. Before the snow pack recedes, take in a guided trek on snowshoes or in a snowcoach and access special wildlife viewing and photo opportunities with the whole family.

Free PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola information tours are being given by Whistler Blackcomb Mountain Hosts throughout the summer. Guests are invited to meet at the Whistler P2P terminal every hour on the hour from 11am - 3pm daily.

Connecting Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola is an engineering marvel breaking three world records.

  • Longest unsupported span of 3.024 kilometres 
  • Highest lift of its kind at 436 metres above the valley floor
  • Completes the longest continuous lift system on the globe

Climbing and Mountaineering
Discover Whistler's spectacular back-country with a professional guide, from day-hikes to expeditions. All guides are SCMG certified.

Golf
The Sea to Sky corridor, linking Vancouver and points north of Whistler, offers seven spectacular golf courses in the Whistler area. Four of the courses are designer courses including the stunning Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Tee time reservations recommended.

Hiking
Day or overnight hikes are available on the myriad of self-guided park routes in the Valley and on surrounding mountains. Heli-hiking trips offer even more exciting alpine adventures.

Horseback Riding
Join in on an unforgettable day of fun, riding through lush meadows, across rivers and along shaded lakeside paths. Or, saddle up and explore the alpine terrain of Whistler Mountain or on the lower part of Blackcomb Mountain.

In-Line Skating
Skaters can enjoy the paved trail system that winds its way throughout the Valley. Skates and safety equipment rentals, as well as clinics are available through many of Whistler's sport stores.

Mini Golf
Play a round at an 18-hole mini golf course with holes named after Blackcomb's most inspiring ski terrain. Located right beside The Fairmont Chateau Whistler resort.

Mountain Biking
Whistler offers unsurpassed biking experiences, from paved paths, single-track and heli-biking to alpine tours and thrilling mountain descents. Rent a bike by the hour, by the day, or take a guided tour which includes a mountain bike and accessories.

Off Road 4X4 Tours
Explore the beauty of Whistler's natural environment from the comfort of a four-wheel drive vehicle. Experienced and knowledgeable guides drive passengers to breathtaking destinations up mountains and through valleys.

River Rafting/ Jet Boating
Local Whistler rafting companies offer everything from an hour long float trip to a multi-day adventure exploring the many rivers in the Whistler area. Jet boaters will see adventure-seekers zipping through the headwaters to view waterfalls and wildlife, and then riding the waves for an unforgettable thrill.

Scenic and white water rafting excursions, 'Raft and Dine' and 'Saddle and Paddle' trips are available on local lakes and rivers through many local rafting companies.

Treetop Tours / Treetrek Tours
Two incredible options for adventurers of all ages and abilities. 
With bridges, rope swings, tight ropes, monkey bars and more, Superfly’s Treetop Adventure Course is a challenging and exciting way to experience the forest.
Treetrek Ecotours is a fully guided ecology based tour that takes guests through the treetops on a series of suspension bridges and observation platforms.

Flightseeing
Various companies in the area provide a range of tours from a 20-minute sightseeing trip to an all-day excursion with a gourmet lunch on a glacier.

Olympic Venues
The Whistler Sliding Centre and the Whistler Olympic & Paralympic Park are open to the public. Explore and enjoy these incredible facilities via guided or self-guided walking tours.

Whistler Eco Tours offers a four-hour interpretive tour of the two facilities. View the bobsled, luge and skeleton event site. Then check out the 70 and 90-metre ski jumps and learn about the sports of biathlon, Nordic combined and cross-country skiing. To book sightseeing in Whistler, contact the Fairmont Concierge Desk.

Racquet Sports
Ace your partner on one of the free public courts located throughout the Whistler Valley or play one of the 2 Plexipave courts available at The Fairmont Chateau Whistler (racquet and ball rentals are available in the Fairmont Health Club). Squash courts may be booked in advance at The Meadow Park Sports Centre.

Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre
Celebrate the history of the Lil'wat and Squamish Nations through art displays, interactive performances, Whistler crafts, and guided tours. This First Nations Aboriginal centre is located across the street from The Fairmont Chateau Whistler resort.

Swimming
Go for an invigorating swim in The Fairmont Chateau Whistler lap pool - complete with underwater music, or relax in one of the four hot tubs and Eucalyptus steam rooms. Whistler also boasts a collection of crystal clear mountain lakes and sandy beaches to enjoy throughout the Valley including Lost Lake, Alta Lake and Alpha Lake.

Treetrek Tour
Treetrek Ecotours is a fully guided ecology based tour that takes guests through the treetops on a series of suspension bridges and observation platforms. Suitable for all ages.

Zip Lining
With Ziptrek EcoTours, ride on a series of zipline cables, some as long as 2000 feet and 200 feet above the forest floor. Joined together by bridges, aerial stairways and ground-based trails, your Ziptrek adventure takes you through the beautiful temperate rain forest in the mountains of Whistler.
