Discover
Reminiscent of the hot springs that beckoned travellers over 100 years ago, the pulsating waterfalls and the mineral pool in the heart of the Banff spa soothe troubled spirits.
The Beginning
William Cornelius Van Horne had a vision to bring the beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains to the rest of the world. He commissioned blueprints for an impressive hotel to be built at the convergence of the Bow and Spray River, in what is now known as Canada's first National Park. Construction began in 1887 and the hotel publically opened on June 1, 1888.
By the start of the twentieth century, the Banff Springs luxury Hotel had developed into one of the top three mountain getaways in North America. Disaster struck in 1926 when the original wooden hotel burnt down. It was rebuilt larger and in its present appearance commencing in 1928.
Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression
Throughout the 1920s and 30s, the hotel was able to combine day-to-day hotel life with the concept of luxurious hotel living. The depression played a part in the 'golden era' as well.
Through the 1940s to 60s, the hotel struggled to reclaim the success it had before the war. The hotel went through a significant change, adapting to the economics of the time. Transportation, convenience and availability to monetary funds jointly changed the whole perspective of the hotel.
"Since we can't export the scenery, we'll have to import the tourists."
William Cornelius Van Horne
By the 70s, the hotel reached a pivotal point. For the first time, Banff Springs remained open for the winter season, becoming a year-round resort destination. The 80s then brought expansion and renovation back to the hotel.

Getaway to the mountains.
Lovely stay
Our stay was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the gorgeous Fairmont. The Nature walk and History tour were nice to be able to do during our short stay. Our only issue was with the location of our room. For spending $1400 a night for a junior suite, having our room located right next to the elevators was rather disrupting and loud, especially at night.
Staying at the Fairmont Banff was a true luxury escape, with stunning mountain views, impeccable service, and a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.

Rooms too small. I have used bigger bathrooms on a plane than what our room had. When you're paying almost a $1000 per night, the expectations are different. Electrical safety hazard on both sides of the bed with extension cords being used rather than proper electrical fittings
Absolutely loved everything about this place!
Overall it was a good experience. The food could have been better… also the whole AI representative Phinella was weird. You should be more transparent about your use of AI
Elopement, including 9 adults, two children, and 2 dogs. All the staff at the Fairmont made our experience comfortable and welcoming, including the individuals I communicated with via e-mail to book rooms and restaurants, the front entrance staff at check in, the cleaning staff who prepared our rooms for early check in, the spa hairstylists, the waitress and chef at the restaurant.

initially not the best experience as we were scheduled to be in the conference tower... and then had a leak from the ceiling in the double bed main tower room. however we were then able to move to a king room and accommodation was taken care of
