1888

Willian Cornelius Van Horne had a vision to bring the beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains to the rest of the world. He commissioned blueprints for a grand hotel to be built in what is now know as Canada's first National Park.

1900s

By the start of the twentieth century, the Banff Springs luxury Hotel had developed into a top mountain destination. Disaster struck in 1926 when the original wooden hotel burnt down. It was rebuilt larger and in its present appearance in 1928.

1940s

Between the 1920s and 1960s, Fairmont Banff Springs adapted to changing times. In the roaring twenties, guests often stayed for months, enjoying luxurious living. The Great Depression and post-war era challenged the hotel's success, prompting significant changes as transportation and economic shifts influenced its evolution during this period.

1970s

By the 70s, the hotel reached a pivotal point. For the first time, Banff Springs remained open for the winter season, becoming a year-round resort destination. The 80s then brought expansion and renovation back to the hotel.
