Grand Renovation Project

For nearly 90 years, Fairmont Le Château Montebello has been known for its rustic charm, superb architecture and beautiful natural surroundings. Described as the true Canadian experience, the world’s largest log cabin fails to disappoint guests who travel to its remote location to recharge and escape the demands of their daily lives.

September 4th, 2019 marked the beginning of a new chapter in Fairmont Le Château Montebello’s story as the resort reveals its 102 newly renovated guest rooms. This turning point marks the end of a year-long first phase of renovations for the log cabin. It will be followed by the revitalization of its majestic lobby. The renovations represent a total investment of over $17.5 M.

Guest Rooms and Suite

Guest Rooms and Suite

Hotel guest rooms and suite have a modern take on a traditional log cabin retreat with residential comforts and amenities. Guests will feel at home and at peace with their surroundings. Combining clean modern lines with heritage antiques and accessories, the rooms and brand new suite will celebrate the local aesthetic and culture that exudes an evolution of Quebecois life.

Rich natural tones and finishes will bring the rustic environment inside, which has always been a key part of Fairmont design. And, of course, well-thought touches of amenities and accessories relating to the sporting nature of the region will keep the guests in touch with their special destination and unique experiences in Montebello.

Lobby Area

Lobby Area

The proposed mood of the lobby interior is a comfortable, family-first atmosphere that encourages interaction. Furniture items and groupings have been selected to encourage long stays with a board game, lunch, or a good book. The palette for the public areas references the colors found along the Ottawa River: shades of blue and grey are interspersed with unexpected pops of caramel to warm up the atmosphere. The carpet will also take from the adjacent river, emulating the flowing water and providing an overall feeling of movement on top of a geometric pattern that is appropriate for the wooden structure of Château Montebello.

The cool winter color palette of the carpet, the rich history of the log cabin, and the familial warmth of the gathering spaces and central stone fireplace will finely enhance the original offering. A new bar, front reception area and concierge desk will be part of the lobby area revitalization project, improving the quality of customer experience.

At the forefront of the renovation project is the wish to preserve and renovate this icon of the region’s heritage and ensure its continuity while adding a contemporary dimension that will enable it to meet the highest expectations. It marks a transition to a contemporary style that remains respectful of the hotel’s history and essence. “This design intervention at Fairmont Le Château Montebello is the perfect blend of comfort and tradition, creating an atmosphere that is approachable, comfortable, and refreshingly modern without being minimal,” says FRANK Architecture & Interiors
