Family Activities

Family Activities

We love serving you, our neighbors and our Hawaii Island community. Your health and safety, along with the wellbeing of our team, are of paramount importance to us. As such, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend all family activities, effective Friday, March 27. This certainly isn’t goodbye, it’s a hui hou (until we meet again) for now. We’ll be back as soon as we can, and look forward to welcoming each of you in the near future.

This program is designed to enhance your keiki's (child's) Hawaiian vacation experience at Fairmont Orchid. Fun and learning are combined in a wonderful variety of engaging activities that will help your keiki create memories to last a lifetime. Keiki (children) between the ages of 5 and 12 are welcome to join the fun! The Keiki Aloha Adventure Program is licensed by the State of Hawaii. Participant age requirements (ages 5-12) are in accordance with state regulations. Dependent on the theme of the day, adventures may include hiking to the ancient Hawaiian Petroglyph field to see mysterious cave drawings carved in lava rock centuries ago, exploration of a lava tube cave or tide pool explorations to explore reef and sea life.

Storytelling
The tradition of moolelo (the ancient oral storytelling about places, objects and cultural practices) carries on at Fairmont Orchid. We invite you to listen to Hawaiian cultural practitioners as they share the legends and lore of Hawaii Island that make this destination to unique. The stories they tell are steeped in thousands of years of mele (song), oli (chant) and hula (dance) as they're passed on from one generation to the next. Please see the Concierge for the time and location of our weekly Storytelling session.

Star Gazing
Join us for a special one-hour guided tour of the Hawaiian night skies with Star Gaze Hawaii. View galaxies that are millions of light years away as we expound on the history of astronomy, the physics of the objects in view and how stars play an essential role in the ancient and modern times. Skilled astronomers are equipped with green laser pointers and helpful visual aids on iPads. They discuss sky lore, ancient star navigation methods and show the outlines of constellations. Please see the concierge for more information on our weekly Star Gazing session.
