Fairmont San Francisco is kicking off the New Year by embarking upon an exciting artistic collaboration with Michelle Sakhai, its 2017 Artist-in-Residence.   Fairmont San Francisco’s Artist-in-Residence program with Sakhai will offer experiential art package options and promotions certain to delight art aficionados and lovers of luxury accommodations. Sakhai will be painting at the hotel from mid to late January and guests are invited to come and observe the artist at work when Fairmont San Francisco transforms its classic lobby into a special studio for her from January 23-25 from 9:00am - 5:00pm.

While Sakhai’s approach borders on the style of abstract expressionism with free subconscious markings, her formal background as a plein air painter directs her work to develop considering light.  A native of Long Island, New York, Michelle Sakhai's extensive world travels along with her mixed Japanese and Persian heritage have shaped her as an artist. Her paintings reference the teachings of Transformative Art and with a focus on light and energy; each spontaneous stroke serves as a vehicle for healing and channeling peace.  Sakhai received a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and minor in Fine Arts from Hofstra University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.  During her days at graduate school in the City, Michelle was drawn to visiting Fairmont San Francisco and particularly enjoys its rich aesthetic and colorful history.

"Fairmont San Francisco has been proud to support and inspire artistic talent within our community and from around the world for more than a century,” said Paul Tormey, Regional Vice President and General Manager of Fairmont San Francisco.” We are honored to partner with Michelle Sakhai, whose stunning work complements the hotel’s spirit of classic-meets-contemporary style.”

Michelle divides her time between San Francisco and New York painting and actively exhibiting. Her work has been displayed in both coasts, at The Art Show through the ADAA at the Park Avenue Armory, LIC Arts Open, and the Lehman Art Gallery in NYC, and at Stanford Art Spaces, MarinMOCA and SOMArts in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Sakhai is currently represented by Slate Art Contemporary in Oakland, CA, Madelyn Jordon Fine Art in Scarsdale,

NY and MiXX Projects in Telluride,CO. She continues to exhibit worldwide with a current show in Kamakura, Japan.  Her most recent work was featured at Context Art Miami in 2016 by Madelyn Jordon Fine Art.For more information on Michelle Sakhai, and to see some of her work, please visit
