Chief Concierge Tom Wolfe

Hello, my name is Tom Wolfe and I have a story to tell you. When I first came to The Fairmont, in 1973, the Concierge did not exist in the United States. While we were good at volume, such as serving breakfasts to 500 people simultaneously, the person who needed a personalized service was too often sent from pillar to post to do the most ordinary things like sorting out an airline ticket, or even mailing a letter. There was a definite need for the Concierge, and Fairmont saw this. I had been very fortunate to work with some of the legendary Concierges in London and Paris, whose lineage went right back to Caesar Ritz; as a result I was able to adapt the concept to The Fairmont, and we became the first hotel in the United States to offer this unique service to our guests. Through my European contacts, I was able to eventually start Les Clefs d’Or, the Golden Keys Society in this country, and in Vienna in 1978, the USA was officially recognized as the 19th member section of this international guild of professionals.
Now, as Concierge service proliferates (department stores, health spas, even pet shops), the meaning still resonates – personal, caring service provided by someone who is locally on the spot, and who will have the guests interests at heart.
Here at The Fairmont, we carry on this noble tradition, and look forward to any and all requests from our guests. Our Concierge desk is staffed with skilled professionals who are capable of making any arrangements to make your stay a memorable one.
Here is a collection of San Francisco Experiences I put together for our centennial in 2007. Some of them may be slightly dated, but I think that you will enjoy having a listen!
In the meantime, enjoy – My World– My San Francisco!
