Excellent hotel.great stay.
We both arrived by taxi at the hotel and we're immediately greeted by the doorman who politely guided us in the direction of reception.
The staff at reception were very polite and after booking in offered us a quick tour of the hotel to show us where everything was.
I had booked a 1 night stay as a surprise for my wife to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary, this hadn't gone unnoticed by our staff member who not only upgraded our room but also offered us on behalf of the hotel a complimentary couple of glasses to be taken in the Library area of the hotel.
We were shown to our room and wow...what a lovely room, great views of London from the window and again a nice note left out wishing us both a Happy anniversary with a lovely raspberry and white chocolate tart.
Earlier when booking in at reception we were given a drinks voucher for drinks to be taken in the room,we decided to go ahead with that and order a bottle of chapagne to be delivered to the room. Minutes later a knock on the door and our drinks were delivered to the room by room service, all done in a manner that you would expect from the Savoy...top notch.
After enjoying the experience of room service and the room,it was time for dinner. We had booked in to eat at the Savoy grill for 19.15 but wanted to experience the champagne offered to us earlier in the Library and also hoped to sample cocktails in the American bar prior to dinner. What a great time we had in there,we enjoyed a couple of cocktails each, served to us by Jamie and Kat.They both made us feel very welcome and were also aware that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Kat also served us a couple of complimentary glasses of pink champagne which went down very well.
Our meal time of 19.15 arrived and we headed to the Savoy Grill,we had been informed that it had recently undertaken a renovation and had only been open for about a month. When we were shown to our seats it did seem to be a little on the dark side in the room and then when we were sat at the table,we had to pick up the table lamp in order to read the menu. On looking around to see if the other customers were having the same problem it would appear they were,a lot of them were either using the lamps as i had, or using the torch on their mobile phones.
We opted for the set menu,i think it was called Taste of the Savoy which included the flagship dish Beef Wellington.
All the courses we had were very nice however we felt the main course of the Beef Wellington wasn't as hot as maybe it should have been, this was mentioned to our waiter when he asked us how our food had been.
We were looked after again in an exemplary manner by all staff and again they all seemed to be aware of us celebrating our anniversary,as a gesture of goodwill by the manager regarding the temperature of the main, they didn't charge us for one of the meals.
On leaving the restaurant we headed for the Beaufort bar to experience a different style of cocktail as described to us by the reception staff. The cocktails in this bar are what you could describe as non traditional, but fun nevertheless.
After a great aternoon and evening in the Savoy,it was time to retire to our luxurious room with great views of the London skyline at night and our sumptous bed.
In the morning we both woke up feeling fully refreshed after a great nights sleep,we got ready for breakfast which we were taking in the River restaurant.
The breakfast was absolutely fantastic, granola, yoghurt, berries and what is probably one of the best cooked breakfasts we have ever had..great.
Sadly, shortly after breakfast it was time to start packing and get ready to leave behind what had been a fantastic experience.
We would like to give a special mention and thanks to both Kat and Jamie in the American bar and the lovely woman on reception who booked us in and gave us tour of the hotel, unfortunately i cannot remember her name but i seem to remember her telling us both she was from Canada.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will hopefully be returning again to enjoy the Savoy experience.
