Decent experience.
Stayed for our wedding night. We like Fairmont, we had looked at using the Olympic Hotel for our wedding venue, and it was very nearly the venue we selected. We'd even become engaged at the Fairmont Empress in Victoria, BC. As a Seattle area local, the mindset about the Olympic is that one doesn't stay there just for a bed, it's supposed to be about the experience. The valet was slammed and I had to get my wife's door for her, and help her out with her dress, then carry all our bags since we didn't see any carts around after hurriedly handing off our keys. Check-in was fine, but bags should have been delivered to rooms. We went to the bar after lugging our bags to our rooms (still in our wedding outfits) and waited about 10 minutes to get drink orders in after getting menus. The manager (we think) came over after seeing us in our wedding gown and tux, and asked if anyone had given us champagne. We said no, and he rushed off to prompt his staff. We'd been waiting a while for our drink order, and since it wasn't especially busy we didn't really feel that special. Two flutes of complementary champagne arrived at the same time as our cocktails, so we suddenly had a lot of drinks in front of us all at once. Our order was comp'd, which we of course appreciated, but it didn't feel very special or like we'd been interacted with by the staff. The selection of the 'later night' menu was also not that enticing, which was surprising and disappointing. After getting to our room, it was obvious there was water damage in the bathroom, which had damaged the ceiling, wallpaper, and the area around the toilet. Given the amount we'd paid for the room it was weird to see that. The rest of the room was fine, though it was very hot, and the thermostat was locked and showed a much cooler temperature that what it felt like. We opened the windows, but they are fixed after 4 inches which doesn't do much, so we just stayed too warm all night. The next morning we tried to order room service, but the telephone didn't work, so we ate downstairs at the George. While at the restaurant, my food order got messed up somehow and the wrong thing showed up, but the staff fixed it quickly. We couldn't call down to the valet, and there was no number on the ticket, so we had to wait about a half-hour for our car to be retrieved. Once it arrived I once again had to load our car and get the doors for my wife and myself. Overall, the stay was pretty much the same as staying at any franchise chain you'd find along I-5, which was a real shame. I probably wouldn't recommend it, and I'm honestly glad we went with a different wedding venue, especially given the price vs the quality of experience.
