We reserved an "ocean view" (not "partial ocean view") and were placed in the building furthest from the ocean to start (no view) and then moved to the second building back, on the second floor. You could only see the ocean if you craned your neck out off the balcony AND the view was the same as that for a "partial ocean view" on the resort website. Very disappointing and certainly shouldn't be marketed as "Ocean View". The servers at Brown's were lovely but the food was extremely overpriced (as was the breakfast buffet, for the offerings) and was missing key components of dishes (for example, macadamia nuts on the salad).
We stayed 3 nights at the Fairmont Orchid to close out our ten year anniversary trip to Hawaii. It was a perfect way to end our Hawaiian holiday, and I can’t recommend the resort enough. The pool is gorgeous and spacious, and with plenty of chairs around. It - and the hot tub - are open 24 hours, which is a great bonus to have a quiet midnight, or very early morning swim. The secluded beach is wonderful, protected, and offers views of Haleakala on Maui, as well as turtle sightings whilst snorkelling! Food at the resort is quite good, with a dinner at the poolside restaurant being a highlight. And while the breakfast buffet was very nice, we felt that $50/person is very high - even for Hawaii Island. Our room was very large and had plenty of storage. The bathroom - with separate shower and tub - as well as WC - was gorgeous. The balcony overlooking the golf course was nice, and very peaceful. Housekeeping was great - though there were a few places on property that went untouched for a couple of days (pool towels by a rubbish bin for a couple days, as an example) - but nothing outrageously overlooked. We had an amazing stay at the Fairmont Orchid, and hope to return one day!

Friendly staff. It was a tough checking process with the rooms not being ready. Hugh went the extra mile and helped us get into a great room and also reset our outlook on the trip and the resort. He is worth his weight in gold. Thank you Hugh.
SIGNED UP FOR AN OCEAN VIEW ROOM. PAID EXTRA, HAD VIEW OF INTERIOR GARDEN WITHPILAR BLOCKING VIEW OF OCEAN. I BELIEVE ROOMS SHOULD NOT BE CALLED OCEAN VIEW IF YOU CAN BARELY SEE OCEAN
We were celebrating our honeymoon and had a very lovely stay. The room we had faced the golf course and was nice and spacious. The pool area was very nice and the gardens beautifully maintained. We ate at two of the hotel restaurants.

This was our first time staying at this hotel. When we arrived we were greeted with leis and the front desk gal was super friendly and gave us a little credit for drinks for our anniversary. Well that set the tone for our stay which I greatly appreciated. Thank you for upgrading our rooms to a partial ocean view. When my husband and I arrived to our room we enjoyed the view and as we settled in I found a piece of fry under the ottoman and a dried up contact near our bed. It was definitely a huge disappointment because that made me question on how well our room was cleaned and honestly felt disgusted and thoroughly checked the whole room to ensure that it was cleaned properly. I called the front desk and someone came to out to pick up those trash. I did get an apology from the male who came to pick it and was informed to that he was going inform his supervisor and there was no follow through. But on a positive note overall our stay was relaxing as we stayed at the pool during the weekend. We did enjoy the 2 restaurants we dined in at Binchotan and Browns Beach.

The staff was so so lovely, every last one of them cared and made our trip special. The location was something out of a movie, the amenities and comforts the resort provided were great. We were planning our return trip by the end of the first night there.
Arrived late (hotel dark & view not seen until morning) told by front desk “Yes, we have you upgraded from partial to ocean view”. Later unpacked went to sleep. Earlier that week I had up graded on line from “partial view” to “ocean view”. Next day upon waking the view was partial ocean approx less than 1/4 off balcony looking to the left. Main view was the green (golf course). We decided to speak to the manager about the upgrade to ocean view. She went round and round about “front ocean view” etc., etc., full view and basically spinning what the word partial means. In the end she agreed to relocate us to south tower but “ok, we can move you but don’t know when, I’ll text you” We packed up and waited by the pool for a few hours. Called again for an estimated time we could unpack and enjoy the day. Again not given a time. Explained I have my expensive handbag and jewelry down here poolside and I would like to secure these items in my room. Our bags are packed in the initial room and we would like to have some idea of when we can start the day. No idea of a time still after conversation. My husband again walked to the lobby to speak with now a general manager. The new manager we spoke with agreed to get us into a room ASAP. This room was nicer - however in both of the rooms the beds were old, squeaky and not supportive. The worst was the odor of mold we endured for 3 days. The last thing I wanted was to complain again so I just kept the balcony door open. Room 1646. Please check the AC it was either the AC or water damage but it’s definitely a strong mold odor. Beautiful location, nice beach staff, but we won’t return.
I had a slight problem during our initial stay at Fairmont that was not resolved right away due to some miscommunication. Once we brought it to Barbie's attention, she went above and beyond not only to take care of the problem but also make sure our stay was as enjoyable as possible. She was very apologetic for the oversight and made arrangements for us to use a Hale for the day so we could relax and then was thoughtful in leaving a gift for us in the room. We did not expect what she did to rectify the problem and she was genuinely concerned we had the best experience possible despite the initial glitch. She even texted daily to make sure there was nothing else she could take care of and that we were enjoying ourselves. As a couple who travels often, we were very impressed she stepped in and continued to touch base with us to make sure there were not additional issues, which there was not. I really appreciate the way she handled everything.
