The Fairmont Kea Lani resort, located on the Hawaiian island of Maui, is committed to responsible tourism practices and sustainable hotel management. The resort's Sustainability Team, created in 2001, is comprised of leaders and colleagues dedicated to proactively "greening" operations and cultivating an enduring connection to the land and community. To date, the Sustainability Team has launched over 50 environmental initiatives at the resort.
Solar Energy - Photovoltaic Installation Project
In partnership with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Host Hotels and Resorts, Maui Electric Company, Resort Energy Ventures and HNU Energy, Fairmont Kea Lani completed the installation of 1,528 solar panels in August 2016. These PV panels generate 845,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, enough to power 139 homes on Maui!
Earth Day - Coral Reef Clean Up
Fairmont Kea Lani sponsors reef and beach clean ups throughout the year including Trilogy's Blue'Aina Reef Cleanup on Earth Day. More than 50 Maui residents join Trilogy crew volunteers, representatives from Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project, and members of the resort's Sustainability Team to SCUBA, snorkel and free dive to retrieve harmful marine debris.
Endangered Hawksbill Sea Turtle Dawn Patrol
In partnership with United States Fish and Wildlife Service and Department of Land and Natural Resources, the resort has 'adopted' neighboring White Rock beach as part of an effort to support the critically endangered Hawksbill sea turtle.
Clean The World Foundation
Fairmont Kea Lani donates all used soaps and amenities to Clean The World foundation. Through this program, over 2,400 lbs of waste have been diverted from the land fill to create over 4,200 bars of soap and 3,200 hygiene kits for third world countries.
