Environmental Initiatives
More travelers are concerned about environmental sustainability and are choosing to support eco friendly hotels and resorts. While this trend has quickly accelerated within the past few years, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has “written the book,” quite literally, on how to incorporate green practices into hotels and businesses. The third edition of The Green Partnership Guide: A Practical Guide to Greening Your Hotel was released in 2007. The first edition was printed back in 1990, long before “green” and “eco” were the buzz words they are today.
The Fairmont Kea Lani is one of the most environmentally friendly hotels on the island, thanks to the resort’s Green Team. Dedicated to achieving the highest standard of environmental stewardship within the resort, the Green Team meets regularly to develop new environmental initiatives and programs. Over the past ten years, the Green Team has successfully created and implemented over 50 environmental initiatives throughout the hotel.
In 2010, The Fairmont Kea Lani received the Hawaii Green Business Award for its outstanding efforts in sustainable and environmentally-friendly business practices. For the past three years, the hotel has also been a recipient of Green Key Eco-Rating Program Award.
