The Riviera Maya is a region located in the southeast of Mexico along the coast of the Caribbean Sea.
The region of Riviera Maya is famous for its miles of soft beaches, Mayan ruins, and world-class scuba diving. For the adventurous, the recreational activities are endless such as scuba diving with electric rays among giant sponges and stony corals, ziplining over beautiful jungles, jetskiing miles across the Caribbean waters, and swimming with dolphins at Delphenus in Playa del Carmen. Visiting cenotes is another experience unique to this area. Cenotes are sinkholes filled with fresh water, typically found in caves that the Mayans believed were sacred places.

Overall, our family of four (Kids ages 13, 17) had a very good stay at Mayakoba. It was our first time at Mayakoba, having been to Cancun/Riviera Maya many times prior. The resort is beautiful, set in a very lush setting, which made it unique. It is starting to show some age and wear in tear in some areas, which was surprising, given what we paid. We did all-inclusive and I am glad we did. The food, even for a resort of it's class, was very expensive. I didn't like feeling forced to tip by having to sign each time after every meal, trip top the coffee bar, swim up bar, etc. That to me was a turn-off. We always tip, but it's been discretionary where you leave cash for good service, not having to add a tip to each bill. Our kids got bored towards the end of the stay (five nights) as there wasn't any entertainment to be found like at other resorts. They did have some things for very little kids for Easter, but that was it. The pool by the ocean was very nice, although the water in all of the pools was a bit on the colder side. Also, I would've liked some music even if at a low volume by that pool in particular. The staff were all fantastic and really went above and beyond. Some more than others but they were all great and are very good representatives for Mayakoba from the time we arrived to the time we left. The staff and service were top notch. The food was very good, I would say above average. We enjoyed all of our meals except for one and that was more to do with the menu and not finding anything we liked. The drinks were very good as well and we never went without.
My stay was ok. However, less enjoyable from the experience we had last year. we had to change rooms due to a bad smell from the room. By the end of the stay there was a large group coming in. so they closed some of the good restaurants and the service was clearly focused on this group. This is too bad coming from a Fairmont. Not coming back

My recent stay at the Fairmont Mayakoba exceeded my expectations! The staff was friendly and very informative whenever I had a question. I would definitely recommend this resort to my friends and family.

Beautiful property, but very difficult to get reservations and was unsatisfied at the level of customer service at the concierge. We also stayed at the Andaz and I did find their customer service in general was much better however your property was nicer.
We were quite dissatisfied for our stay for a few reasons: 1. Staff was nice enough but lacked attention to detail. Eg welcome drink given to 3 of 4 of us and told they would bring the last one for the 4th one but never did. Or, offered to take our bags to our friends room who had earlier check-in eventhough it was a long walk to transfer to our room (why would anyone want this?) 2. Check in process took an inordinate amount of time- On the order of 20 minutes. Thats 20 minutes of the clerk typing on a computer. Long bac-up so had to wait to start the check in process as well. Despite long check in we were not given any information about the resort, restaurants or how to get around. 3. Very poor service. Waited extremely long amounts of time for waiter to come to take our order nearly every location we went. Took me 30-40 minutes to get coffee each day. Not very apologetic even when we brought this to their attention. 4. Concierge not helpful- repetitively told us to email them to book a cab we needed in 1 hour. Got stuck in playa late at night with boot on our rental car, they couldnt care less about our safety or helping us. Told to just ‘hail a cab’ when we were in potential danger. 5. Room had outdoor shower which was cool but there was a ~2 inch gap in the shower door that allowed communication between indoor and outdoor area— saw a couple of bugs in our room likely for this reason 6. Had mexican food at la laguna which was really not good. Local street food in Playa much better.

This was our second stay at The Fairmont Mayakoba and overall it was very enjoyable. Our Deluxe King Suite room has ample room for the two of us. The dining options were plentiful and the food was excellent. Even the fact that you have to take the shuttle to the beach wasn't a hinderance at all. The weather was amazing and the service on the beach was top-notch (shout out to Nico!)
We had a very good time. Rooms, restaurants, pools and beach were very nice.

Overall a lovely vacation. Our rooms were not connected as originally planned but it worked out fine. The resort was very, very busy the first couple of days but calmed down a bit after the weekend. There was a transition while we were there from young families to conference attendees. The conference somewhat took over the resort with various areas closed off to only conference attendees. That didn’t feel very welcoming to others that were staying there and it was a bit annoying to go to a bar to find out it was closed. The resort should’ve notified us ahead of time and had signage or flyers each day letting guests know what was and wasn’t open. Great food and beverages, friendly staff for the most part. Beach servers were much friendlier and hardworking than pool servers.
