Thames Foyer Afternoon Tea

  • Savoy Afternoon Tea Thames Foyer

The Thames Foyer is very much the heart of The Savoy.  A stunning glass dome floods this sociable spot  with wonderful natural light – and beneath this, a pianist serenades guests from a winter garden gazebo, as they enjoy our world-famous afternoon tea.

Afternoon Tea at The Savoy is an enduring custom where guests can choose from a range of teas served with finger sandwiches, homemade scones with clotted cream & jam and a mouth-watering selection of seasonal cakes and pastries created by The Savoy’s Executive Pastry Chef, Ludwig Hely.

Salon Couture High-Tea With Suzie Turner

Renowned for its luxury fashion affiliations, stylish patronage and iconic heritage, The Savoy is delighted to announce a new collaboration with British couturier, Suzie Turner. The Salon Couture High-Tea with Suzie Turner has been inspired by the salon style fashion shows of the 1950s.

Showcasing stunning couture gowns, the show will present ten to 12 looks from Suzie Turner’s eagerly awaited collection. Featuring one-of-a-kind pieces, such as a dress with forty thousand hand-sewn emerald Nagoire flat feathers, and a gown made with twenty-seven thousand Swarovski crystals, the event will be a breathtaking show in an elegant setting. Pairing high fashion with high tea, guests at the salon will enjoy a welcome cocktail accompanied by a selection of delectable sandwiches, cakes, scones and éclairs, all created by The Savoy’s Executive Pastry Chef, Ludwig Hely. The bespoke éclairs will be decorated with intricate sketches of Suzie Turner designs.

Based around the ‘Salon Style’ fashion shows of the 1950s, Salon Couture High-Tea with Suzie Turner will be a true celebration of the history within the walls of The Savoy, harking back to the iconic couture shows held in the hotel back then. Christian Dior showed his second collection in autumn 1947 at The Savoy, and it was received with such acclaim that the Queen (the late Queen Mother) requested a separate private viewing the following morning for members of the Royal Family, including her daughter Princess Margaret. The choreography of the Suzie Turner show has been inspired by archive footage and the models will be taught to walk in the fashion of classic salon models.

Salon Couture High-tea will take place in the beautiful Thames Foyer on the first Wednesday of every month, launching on Wednesday 6th July. Priced at £58 per person, including a welcome cocktail created by American Bar Head Bartender Erik Lorincz.

Royal Afternoon Tea - available for a limited time
In celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th Birthday celebrations, The Savoy, a Fairmont Managed Hotel, will be launching A Royal Afternoon Tea this June. In collaboration with The Royal Chef, Darren McGrady, The Savoy will present a menu that’s fit for a Queen and a true representation of what our reigning monarch enjoys when taking tea at the Palace.

Chef Darren McGrady was personal chef to Queen Elizabeth II, Diana, Princess of Wales, and Princes’ William and Harry for 15 years, and has cooked for many US and visiting dignitaries to Buckingham Palace. But it all began here at The Savoy as before his time in the Royal Kitchens, Chef McGrady trained at The Savoy, achieving the position of Chef-de-Partie Saucier. The Savoy is delighted to welcome Chef McGrady back to consult on this special Afternoon Tea menu in collaboration with The Savoy’s Executive Chef, Holger Jackisch.

To be served in the beautiful Thames Foyer, The Savoy’s Royal Afternoon Tea will feature some of Her Majesty’s favourites, which remain on the Royal tea menu today, such as the Jam Pennies Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret loved as young children; Chocolate birthday cake, the recipe of which dates back to Queen Victoria’s chef; and Her Majesty’s absolute favourite, the Chocolate biscuit cake chosen by Prince William for his Groom’s cake.

The Savoy’s Royal Afternoon Tea will be available from 9th June 2016 until the end of the month and is priced from £52.50 per person. Chef Darren McGrady will make a special guest appearance during sittings of Afternoon Tea on Saturday 11th June to meet with guests and answer any questions about his time at the Palace.
