28-Jul-2016 | 29-Jul-2016
July 28 is a public holiday called Emancipation Day, marking the Slavery Abolition Act of 1834. July 29 is Somers Day, named in honour of Admiral Sir George Somers. The two days make up Bermuda's most cultural public holiday, Cupmatch, a cricket tournament between the two extremities of the island (Somerset & St. George's). There is a great spirit around Bermuda, and the cricket game is hotly contested, being held this year in Somerset. Food vendors offer up local fare, and locals enjoy the crown & anchor gambling! There are many other events & activities over this long holiday weekend, for more information, visit the Bermuda Cupmatch Website.
