Our sustainable engagements

Fairmont Century Plaza holds a 4 Green Key rating through the Green Key Global Eco-Rating Program, a globally recognized framework for evaluating sustainability practices in the hospitality industry.

The rating reflects our ongoing efforts across areas including energy and water conservation, waste reduction, responsible purchasing and operational practices. It also provides a framework for identifying opportunities to continue improving our environmental performance and strengthening our long-term commitment to sustainability.

We’re taking meaningful steps to reduce unnecessary single-use plastics throughout the guest experience. Plastic-free key cards, grab-and-go containers and straws are among the ways we’re helping minimize waste, while bulk-format bath amenities eliminate the need for individual shampoo and conditioner bottles.

We also offer boxed water as an alternative to traditional plastic water bottles, giving guests a more thoughtful choice during their stay.

Through Fairmont’s carbon management program, we’re working to reduce emissions by improving energy efficiency and incorporating renewable energy sources. Across the property, ongoing attention to energy use helps us operate more efficiently while maintaining the comfort and service our guests expect.

Charge Into a Greener Future

Arriving in an electric vehicle? Our EV charging stations make it easy to recharge while you stay. It’s one more way we’re making more sustainable travel a little more seamless.

Sustainability extends beyond our own walls. As part of Fairmont’s responsible purchasing policy, we prioritize locally sourced food and products, with a focus on suppliers and partners committed to responsible business practices.

Our procurement standards encourage partnerships with eco-conscious organizations, including B Corp and carbon-neutral suppliers, while also supporting environmentally responsible cleaning products and locally made and upcycled goods.

Water stewardship is an important part of responsible hotel operations. Fairmont Century Plaza meets Fairmont brand standards for water-efficient fixtures throughout the property, including high-performance showerheads designed to conserve water without compromising guest comfort.

Our Engineering team conducts required rounds to identify leaks and monitor building systems, helping us minimize unnecessary water loss and use this essential resource responsibly.

In our kitchens, our newer high-efficiency commercial dishwasher helps us maintain efficient operations without requiring a replacement upgrade.

Sustainability is about more than the environment. It’s also about people, communities and creating opportunities for everyone to thrive.

Fairmont is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion across our organization, with a strong focus on developing and promoting women leaders. We believe creating welcoming, equitable spaces and supporting our people and communities is an essential part of responsible hospitality.
