Sustainable RESPONSIBILITY
At Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol, part of the Accor group, we are embedding sustainability into our operations from day one. As we open our doors in 2025, we’re establishing a data-driven baseline for our environmental and social performance, from carbon emissions and energy use to waste, water, and community impact.
This first year will serve as the foundation for clear, measurable sustainability targets beginning in 2026, aligned with international best practices and corporate commitments. Our goal is to operate with integrity, reduce our footprint year over year, and deliver a luxury experience that respects the environment and supports local communities.
Sustainability
Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol, together with Accor, is deeply committed to sustainability by reducing environmental impact, supporting local communities, and promoting responsible operations. We are working towards achieving the Green Key eco-certification, reflecting our dedication to high environmental standards and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Eco-Adventures
At Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol, outdoor adventure is deeply connected to environmental respect and cultural richness. Nestled between Europe and Africa, where the Alboran Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean, our location benefits from a unique microclimate and extraordinary biodiversity, making it one of the most distinctive natural environments in the region.
This privileged setting borders the majestic Parque Natural de Los Alcornocales, one of the largest and most ecologically valuable cork oak forests in Europe. Known for its lush vegetation, hidden waterfalls, rivers, and misty valleys — often referred to as "la selva de Andalucía", the park is a sanctuary for hikers, nature lovers, and those seeking peace and reconnection with the land.
Surrounding the resort, guests can explore the authentic soul of Andalusia through whitewashed villages like Alcalá de los Gazules, rich in Moorish heritage and artisanal charm, or wander through the historic Castillo de Castellar, a walled hilltop village with panoramic views. Nearby, Gibraltar offers a unique mix of cultures and breathtaking vistas over the Strait.
The nearby coastline, where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic, is also a haven for marine biodiversity. It’s not uncommon to spot dolphins playing offshore, graceful loggerhead sea turtles gliding through the waters, and an incredible array of marine birds, octopuses, flying fish, and even sunfish (Mola mola) during certain seasons. This marine richness is part of what makes this region so unique, perfect for sustainable activities like guided boat tours, birdwatching, snorkeling, or simply enjoying the unspoiled natural setting.
Guests are also invited to indulge in the local Andalusian gastronomy, from fresh seafood and traditional stews to olive oil tastings and regional wines; all accompanied by the rhythm of flamenco, summer festivals, and the warmth of southern Spanish hospitality.
Whether hiking in the hills, cycling along coastal trails, or exploring local culture, Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol offers a truly authentic, diverse, and sustainable outdoor experience, where nature, heritage, and luxury come together in perfect harmony.
