American Bar
The American Bar is the longest surviving cocktail bar in London and one of the most renowned in the world.
Serving classics with a twist, new and vintage creations and legendary bartender’s signature drinks - like Harry Craddock’s famous White Lady – the American Bar remains at the forefront of the industry, been recently named World’s Best Bar at Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards 2018 and World’s 50 Best Bars 2017.
The bar features a live pianist seven days a week, playing (of course) American Jazz.
The Savoy Songbook, new drinks menu
‘The Savoy Songbook’ features 20 cocktails inspired by 20 songs, and pays tribute to the incredible musicians who have played in the American Bar throughout its history.
The new menu has been created as a collaborative effort by the American Bar team, led by head bartender Maxim Schulte and director of bars, Declan McGurk. The team worked closely with the bar’s in-house musicians to delve into The Savoy’s history of musical moments to find the 20 songs that really define the atmosphere of the American Bar to form the creative heart of the cocktail list.
The structure of
the new menu mirrors the track listings of an album, with each cocktail’s title playfully referring to a memorable line in the song that provides its inspiration. The songs themselves, their lyrics, melodies and soulfulness are reflected in the ingredients, styles and spirits used in the drinks. Launched alongside the new cocktail menu is
an accompanying live album, recorded by the American Bar’s resident piano player, Jon Nickoll, who has also written an original song, ‘The American Bar Song’, which inspires the cocktail Crystal Star (aptly named as Jon celebrates his Crystal anniversary - 15 years as the bar’s resident pianist).
