Vancouver Eco Friendly Hotel: Vancouver Green Hotel in BC

Green Hotel Initiatives

At the Fairmont Waterfront we strive to minimize our environmental impact, while still offering our guests an outstanding experience by exceeding expectations. Over the years, the Fairmont Waterfront has continued to be a leader in sustainability and responsible tourism, and is continuously looking for ways to further reduce our impact. In 1990, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts launched our Green Hotel Partnership Program, a comprehensive approach to minimalizing our carbon footprint.

The Fairmont Waterfront has recently announced the installation of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations, in partnership with GE Energy Industrial Solutions. Charging stations will be available both to guests and other travellers in the area. Drivers can simply swipe a card, plug in and charge their vehicles at the stations. In addition guests driving Electric cars will be offered complimentary parking. (Maximum one car per room.)

The Fairmont Waterfront Herb Garden

Located on the 3rd floor of the hotel rests a 2100 square foot herb garden. Introduced in 1991, it became one of Vancouver’s first green roofs. The garden in the heart of the city plays home to over sixty varieties of herbs, vegetables, fruits and edible blossoms, as well as over 10 different species of local birds. The Chef uses the bounty from the green hotel garden daily in Herons West Coast Kitchen + Bar menus, and to create culinary masterpieces in the kitchen.

Honey Bees

The newest addition to the Herb Garden comes in the form of 500,000 honeybees who make the Harbor Garden their home from May through September. Introduced in June of 2008, the bees have since increased the productivity of the herb garden with pollination, as well as inspired creative new dishes on the lunch, dinner and cocktails menus created by our Executive Chef Dana Hauser and her team. The 2011 honey harvest produced over 600 pounds of honey!
