Green Hotel Initiatives

The Fairmont Waterfront is currently ranked as a '5 Green Key' Hotel and a '4 Green Key Meetings' Hotel by Green Key Global.

The Fairmont Waterfront proudly embraces sustainability, the environment and our community. Our West Coast metropolis is beautiful, dynamic and poised to become the greenest city in the world by 2020. This is our hotel’s inspiration. This is home.

Here are some of the many ways we do this:

GE Charging Stations

Driving an Electric Vehicle?

The Fairmont Waterfront was the first Vancouver hotel to provide Electric Vehicle charging stations. Guests driving electric vehicles are offered complimentary parking. Even if you’re not a guest, but your electric car needs a charge, feel free to come by and plug in.

Roof Top Herb Garden

From Rooftop to Fork: Our Very Own Herb Garden

Planted in 1995, our charming rooftop garden and apiary became one of the first green roofs in downtown Vancouver. Our 2,100 sq foot garden produces over twenty varieties of herbs, vegetables, fruits and edible blossoms, which guests can enjoy in Chef Suri’s culinary masterpieces.

Waterfront Apiary

Our Honey Bees and their Butler

Our third floor terrace is buzzing with action – four beehives and over 250,000 honeybees. Guests are invited to join the daily summer apiary tours with our very own ‘Bee Butler’ Michael King (a veritable master at not getting stung) and see why it’s more important than ever to give bees a chance.

Pollinator Hotel

Rooftop Pollinator Hotel

Moving on up - We've upgraded our mason bee house to a full-fledged pollinator hotel in our rooftop garden - the 'Bee and Bee' provides habitat for the hundreds of species of solitary bees (our super pollinators) native to British Columbia.

Hives for Humanity

Hives for Humanity

2014 has brought mason bees to the hotel’s garden in an exciting partnership with Hives for Humanity. As part of the inspiring Pollinator Corridor Project, we engage with the community and build bee populations by providing new habitats in Vancouver green spaces.

EcoMeet

Want Your Next Meeting to be Eco-Friendly?

Our Eco-Meet Program invites event planners to minimalize the ecological footprint of their meetings. Options include local and organic menus, disposable-free service, and carbon-neutral, eco-friendly hotel options. Event planners can request that food leftovers be donated to a local charity.

Haida Wild

Haida Wild

ARC restaurant proudly serves sustainable ocean-wise certified seafood choices - fished to order in beautiful Haida Gwaii. Be assured you are making the best, healthy choice for our oceans.

Choosing Local

Act Global. Choose Local

Our culinary team has partnered with local fishermen and farmers who share our passion and commitment to the environment. From organic wines, to our very own rooftop honey, guests can be assured sustainability is our number one priority.

Zero Waste

Zero Waste

The Fairmont Waterfront is on a mission to be certified zero waste - this means increasing our waste diversion rate to 90% by the end of 2016 through re-using, re-purposing, and recycling. We're working with RecycleSmart to make our goal a reality.
