Heart of Community

Fairmont Rio’s partners embody the global Fairmont network’s commitment to supporting small local producers and boosting the state’s economy. This engagement fosters a deep connection with the community, allowing the hotel to integrate seamlessly and enrich local relationships.

A local family-owned apiary supplies our exclusive line of organic honey, enjoyed throughout the hotel. Fairmont Rio prioritizes sourcing local products, supporting community businesses while enhancing our guests' culinary experience.

The fresh fish served to our guests is sourced directly from the local fishermen's colony, conveniently located just across the hotel, in Copacabana beach. This ensures the highest quality and supports local fishermen.

Our sustainable engagements

We have replaced single-use plastic packaging for our amenities with biodegradable and recyclable paper alternatives. We have also transitioned from plastic waste bags to kraft paper bags as part of our ongoing commitment to reducing single-use plastics and minimizing our environmental footprint.

At Fairmont Rio, we combine food donation initiatives with responsible waste management practices. Through our partnership with Comida Invisível, surplus food that remains suitable for consumption is redirected to institutions supporting people experiencing food insecurity. Since 2022, the partnership has enabled the donation of more than 120,000 meals. We also monitor food waste and send organic waste from our Food & Beverage operations to a biodigester, where it is transformed into biogas and biofertilizer, supporting a more circular approach to resource management.

Water conservation is supported by dual-flush toilets, flow restrictors in showers and faucets, and sensor-based systems. In the laundry, natural cleaning products used at high dilution rates contribute to more efficient resource management. These practices form part of our ongoing efforts to reduce water consumption and environmental impact.

In 2024, Fairmont Rio reduced carbon emissions by 399 metric tons through the purchase of renewable energy certified by I-REC. During the same year, energy consumption decreased from 94.16 kWh to 90.63 kWh per occupied room night, despite higher occupancy. The hotel also offers two electric vehicle charging stations with European Type 2 connectors and a charging capacity of 11 kW each, with complimentary charging for guests with compatible vehicles.

At Fairmont Rio, we believe that diversity, equity and inclusion are essential to responsible hospitality. Through partnerships with INES (the National Institute for the Education of the Deaf), SOS Children’s Villages and Transgarçonne, we support initiatives that foster inclusion and create employment opportunities for people with disabilities, refugees and transgender individuals. These efforts reflect our commitment to a more inclusive workplace and a more equitable society.
