We recognize that environmentally-friendly hospitality practices help us fulfill our mission to be a steward of the land and waters we are connected to. We pledge to constantly seek to better the ways in which we impact Mother Earth.

Our sustainability mindset

We believe that the notion of hospitality is inseparable from the notion of responsibility. We recognize that welcoming hundreds of guests every day creates a significant impact on the planet. We fully embrace our responsibility and are driving strategic change to mitigate the negative effects associated with our operations. We believe it is our privilege to enhance genuine experiences and promote a rich cultural exchange within our communities by ensuring long-term stewardship of our planet.

Our sustainable engagements

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. In addition to a robust composting program, Fairmont Hotel Vancouver recycles all refundable beverages, glass, cardboard, paper, tin, plastic, metal, electronics, shipping pallets, tires, propane cylinders, mattresses, cooking oil, and Nespresso pods. The hotel actively purchases environmentally friendly to-go cups, containers, and utensils for our dining venues. We have proudly eliminated the use of plastic water bottles in all guest rooms, and encourage guests to enjoy our clean, delicious tap water instead of single-use plastic bottles.

In 2022, Fairmont Hotel Vancouver eliminated 100% of single-use plastic from the guest journey. The hotel has made significant strides in reducing plastic consumption, having eliminated products such as plastic straws, plastic cups, single-use toiletries, and plastic water bottles from guest-facing operations. Our guestroom key cards also transitioned from plastic to custom-made wooden cards.

Our sustainable menus feature a collection of dishes that are low on environmnetal impact and high in nutritious value, providing nourishment for the mind, body and planet.

We are committed to and celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion. We aim to attract, recruit and promote diverse talent and provide ongoing training on wellness, recognizing bullying and harassment, cultural awareness, PRIDE and more.

Land Acknowledgement

We are honoured to live, work, play, and learn within the shared, unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil Waututh) Nations. The land and waters of the area we know today as Vancouver have been used for millennia by Indigenous Peoples for sustenance, ceremony, trade, and travel. We thank them for their continuous stewardship, and for sharing this beautiful land

Reducing Food Waste

Food waste is one of the largest causes of anthropogenic climate change. Fairmont Hotel Vancouver adopted the Orca Food Waste system helps to reduce our carbon footprint by harnessing naturally occurring microorganisms to break down organic food waste.

Community Connection

Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is committed to building community. We celebrate our team of diverse colleagues from different nations, cultures, and religions. Whether guests or colleagues of the hotel, everyone is welcome here, regardless of sexual orientation or gender expression. We believe in gender diversity in our workforce and leadership team. We strive to create a culture of inclusion at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. We are committed to making our hotel accessible to everyone, including thoughtfully-designed accessible rooms to ensure comfort and safety for everyone during their stays.
