Our golf course grounds team re-naturalized 510,000 sq. ft. near tee boxes and fairways by planting native montane grasses, reducing the need for water and maintenance. This allowed the hotel to decommission 115 sprinklers, saving 3.5 million gallons of water annually. Frequent irrigation audits ensure efficient water use and equipment upkeep.

Our sustainable engagements

Accor has eliminated non-essential single-use plastics from guest experiences and is aiming to be plastic-free by 2030. Guests can stay with ease, knowing their visit doesn't generate unnecessary plastic waste.

Accor’s Net-Zero Carbon Calculator helps event planners calculate their carbon footprint and purchase carbon credits to balance emissions. The solution is provided through myclimate, a global leader in carbon accounting and climate protection.

In partnership with Sun Country Highway Ltd., we have installed an electric vehicle charging station in the parkade. The hotel also has six Tesla charging stations.

In 2020, Fairmont Banff Springs received the Zero Waste Trailblazers Award for environmental leadership. The hotel implemented zero waste recipes and installed the Orbisk system, which tracks and reduces food waste in kitchens.

Leading the Way in Sustainable Hospitality

At Fairmont Banff Springs, we are deeply committed to sustainability, recognizing that the pristine beauty of Banff National Park is not just a backdrop, but a responsibility we share.

LED Lights

To conserve energy and cut greenhouse gas emissions, Fairmont Banff Springs has introduced LED light bulbs throughout the hotel. Since 2015, electricity use has decreased by 8% thanks to the LED installations.

Sustainable Cuisine

At Fairmont Banff Springs, our chefs source 75% of ingredients from Alberta and Canada. The hotel produces pastries, cured meats, and preserves in-house, grows microgreens and herbs onsite, and is committed to local, sustainable sourcing.

Toiletry Recycling

Leftover soap & hygiene products that would otherwise be discarded from guest rooms are donated to Clean the World. A global organization that distributes recycled soaps and hygiene products to vulnerable communities in over 120 countries.

PARTNERS

We are proud to collaborate with like-minded partners who share our vision for a greener future. Together with our local and international partners, we continue to innovate and implement sustainability initiatives that protect our natural surroundings and support our community.
