1897 - The beginning of something special

On February 24th, 1897, Friedrich Haerlin bought "Hotel zu den Vier Jahreszeiten"— a modest building with 11 rooms —for 420,000 Marks at a public auction. His dream became reality with the steadfast support of his wife, Thekla Toussaint.

1900-1905

In 1900, the hotel became the first in Hamburg to install central heating, allowing guests to enjoy heated rooms and hot water year-round. This innovation is reflected in the name "Zu den Vier Jahreszeiten," meaning the hotel is open during all seasons.

1909-1919

In 1909, Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten expanded with 140 new rooms. Fritz, the 16-year-old son, began his apprenticeship in 1913. By 1919, the family legacy grew further with the opening of the renowned Restaurant Haerlin.

1926

In 1925, Haerlin commissioned the architect Professor Fahrenkamp to design a chic dining space for Hamburg's business elite. This vision culminated in the 1926 opening of the Jahreszeiten Grill featuring Art-Déco design elements.
