José Enrique, Menu Creator

Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Chef José Enrique is deeply rooted in the flavors and culture of his homeland. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in New York, he built his culinary career in New York, Florida, and Louisiana before returning to Puerto Rico to tell his own story through food. In 2007, he opened José Enrique at La Placita de Santurce, quickly earning national attention. The restaurant was named one of Condé Nast Traveler’s 105 Best New Restaurants just one year later. In 2013, Chef José Enrique was recognized as one of Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs. From 2015 to 2020, he was a finalist for the James Beard Awards, becoming the first Puerto Rican chef to receive this distinction.
