RESPONSIBLITY
Fairmont Singapore is dedicated to redefining hospitality with a strong focus on sustainability. Through partnerships, staff-driven green initiatives, and inviting guests to experience our values, we work towards creating a positive impact.
Aquaponics Farm at Fairmont Singapore
At Fairmont Singapore, our Urban Aquaponics Farm is a testament to our dedication to sustainability. This innovative initiative combines aquaculture and hydroponics to provide our kitchens with fresh, locally grown produce, reflecting our commitment to reducing our environmental impact while elevating your dining experience.
Aquaponics combines aquaculture – the growing of fish and other aquatic life – with hydroponics, which is growing plants without soil. It is a sustainable, pesticide-free solution to traditional methods with substantially higher yields while requiring less water, space and labour.
It is a sustainable method in which a full meal can be grown, in just one system. Fish and vegetables grow together in an integrated system – fish waste is converted to nitrates, which the vegetables use as fertilizers; while the latter filter and clean the water for the fish, lowering the consumption of water as compared to soil gardening.
Our sustainable engagements
Filtered water dispensers are available at Raffles City Convention Centre and in select guest rooms at Fairmont Singapore, offering guests access to hot & cold drinking water.
At Fairmont Singapore & Swissôtel The Stamford, we have adopted an eco-green cleaning program with approved chemicals that will minimise our hotel’s operational impact on the environment through resource conservation and best practices.
Minimise buffet waste with "buffet-in-a-box" (Treatsure) and Valorisermachine recycles scraps into compost, while Lumitics AI tracks kitchen waste.
Leading the Way in Sustainable Hospitality
Fairmont Singapore proudly announces its achievement in being awarded the prestigious Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Certification. This reaffirms our commitment to sustainable tourism, responsible business practices, and redefining hospitality experiences while demonstrating our values towards sustainability.
SUSTAINABLE SOURCING
Since March 2020, our Aquaponics Farm supplied an estimated 30% of vegetables and 10% of fresh fish needs across Fairmont Singapore every month. From 2022, we harvested around 2,300kg of vegetables & herbs, and 950kg of fish from our Aquaponics Farm.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
At Fairmont Singapore and Swissotel The Stamford, we’re dedicated to giving back to our community. In 2022 and 2023, we have supported 200 children from low-income families through our ‘Tree of Hope’ program’ by granting them their Christmas wishes.
USAGE OF ECO-FRIENDLY PRODUCTS
Using eco-friendly products is a key initiative in our commitment to a sustainable future. We've diverted over 507,079 kg of plastic waste from landfills and saved more than 199,680 litres of water, and we will only continue to enhance these efforts.
