1940s

Formerly know as the Miramar Hotel and initially comprised of just 12 rooms, Fairmont Royal Pavilion was built in the 1940s and was the first hotel to open its doors on the stunning West Coast of Barbados.

1980s

In 1985, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II visited The Miramar, after travelling to Barbados aboard the Concorde. Just a couple of years later, Lynne and Mike Pemberton acquired the property and, following an impressive transformation completed in record time, unveiled the luxurious Royal Pavilion in December 1987.

1990s

In 1996, the property was acquired by Princess Hotels and, following a brand merger in 1998, became part of the Canadian Pacific Hotels collection—soon to evolve into Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. The following year, the resort was proudly renamed Fairmont Royal Pavilion, as it is known today.

Fairmont Royal Pavilion Today

As the first hotel on Barbados’ renowned Platinum Coast, the iconic Fairmont Royal Pavilion—known for its signature pale pink façade—now features 72 oceanfront guestrooms and suites overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Refined elegance and timeless charm are waiting to be discovered around every corner.

A Touch of Island History: The Gardens

From native flora to rare botanical treasures, the gardens at Fairmont Royal Pavilion are filled with stories and a hint of history. Among them is the tale of a Portuguese explorer who first discovered the island, noting its distinctive bearded fig trees—an inspiration for the name “Barbados,” which means “bearded ones” in Portuguese.

OUR COMMITMENT TO THE FUTURE

At Fairmont Royal Pavilion, our commitment to the future is guided by a deep respect for Barbados’ natural environment, vibrant community, and cherished guests. We are dedicated to advancing sustainable hospitality practices—reducing our carbon footprint, preserving local culture, and protecting the island’s rich biodiversity.
