An impressive number of famous personalities from all around the world have honored the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac with their presence over the last century. All these visits, the pride of the legendary château, have created over 130 years of wonderful memories.

A Royal Château

The Château Frontenac welcomed King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II in 1939. A luxurious suite was designated in honor of the official visits of Queen Elizabeth II.

Host of crucial political meetings

In 1943 and in 1944, Le Château Frontenac became the center of the Quebec Conferences of World War II, bringing together Roosevelt, Churchill and Mackenzie King. Allied leaders held discussions there that proved decisive in bringing the war to a successful conclusion.

Hollywood on Cap Diamant

In 1952, Le Château Frontenac was transformed into a movie set for the Alfred Hitchcock movie, I Confess. Montgomery Clift and Anne Baxter were part of the movie’s prestigious cast. Many other movie stars chose the Château as their hotel destination.

A visit worthy of a fairy tale

In 1969, HRH Princess Grace of Monaco was guest of honor at the Québec Winter Carnival. The highlight of her visit was the Regency Ball, held in the Château’s function room, where the Princess dazzled the guests in a magnificent 18th-century-style ballgown.

A figure of the city's French heritage

Fairmont le Château Frontenac was named after Louis de Buade, comte de Palluau et Frontenac. Frontenac was appointed Governor General of New France by King Louis XIV of France. In particular, he is credited with greatly expanding the colony.

OVER 130 YEARS OF HISTORY

Since 1893, the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac has proudly stood on Cap Diamant, always ready to welcome guests from all over the world into a pleasant, elegant and refined atmosphere.

Canadian Pacific Railways

By the late 19th century, William Van Horne, President of Canadian Pacific Railways (C.P.R.), had raised enough funds to build the ideal stopover for C.P.R. travelers, Le Château Frontenac. Van Horne retained the services of New York architect Bruce Price.
