1960

Following the first world war and the lack of tourists, the Casino closes before being bought by the city of Geneva in 1921. It then becomes a performance hall. Between 1952 and 1962, the hall wasused for lyrical performances following the fire at the Grand-Théâtre in Geneva.

Deemed too dilapidated, this excellent performance venue was closed down in 1965, then demolished in 1970 to make way for the Hôtel Noga-Hilton, builtfrom 1978 to 1980, under whichis a new concert hall, the Théâtre du Léman. The Noga-Hilton Hotel opens its doors on 15 May 1980 becoming a flagship Hotel for the Hotel Brand Hilton in Europe.

From 1 January 2020, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts (Accor) has taken over the operations of the Hotel with an extensive renovation program to restore the very high reputation of the landmark Hotel. The Architect Jean Nouvel has signed the Hotel new facade and Goddard Littlefair have been appointed for the new interior Hotel design.

Sustainable Responsibility

Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva is committed to the protection of the environment and develops many initiatives to preserve the planet. A “green committee” was created within the Hotel two years ago with the aim of putting forward innovative ideas for sustainable development. There is no such thing as small actions not worth considering. Countless little things which, when added up, make a big difference.
