Sustainable Stewardhip: Protecting Lake Louise's Environment

For over 20 years, the Chateau has integrated sustainability into daily operations, from eco-friendly landscaping to staff education. This holistic approach preserves Lake Louise's natural beauty for future generations.

Our sustainable engagements

Our parkade is equipped with electric vehicle charging stations and have committed to switching all property fleets to energy efficient & electric vehicles during lifecycle replacements.

We continuously upgrade products and infrastructure to enhance guest experience and reduce environmental impact. Nearly all lighting is energy-efficient, with sensor-activated fixtures, and guest rooms feature low-flow plumbing to conserve glacier water.

Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise offers some of the world’s cleanest drinking water, sourced from Victoria Glacier. The hotel’s on-site treatment plant purifies lake water through advanced filtration and UV lights, providing pristine water for guests, with refill stations available.

Since 2003, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise’s Renewable Energy Certificate has supplied 5.5 million kWh of energy. As energy use decreases, renewable coverage grows, reaching 52% of the hotel’s supply in 2023.

Leading the Way in Sustainable Hospitality

At Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, our commitment to sustainability reflects the responsibility we have to protect the breathtaking natural beauty of Banff National Park. Our initiatives are designed to preserve the environment for future generations to enjoy.

Sustainability Leadership in Lake Louise

Caring for Our Local Environment

Each year, our colleague-led sustainability committee spearheads a property cleanup at Lake Louise. As stewards of a world-renowned destination, our team is committed to maintaining the natural beauty of this iconic landscape.

Eliminating Single-Use Plastics for a Greener Future

In 2022, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise joined Accor’s commitment to eliminate non-essential single-use plastics from the guest experience. As part of a global effort, the hotel is working towards being entirely plastic-free by 2030.
