Leading the Way in Sustainable Hospitality

Together with the sustainability initiatives developed by Fairmont Hotels, we challenge our guests, colleagues and partners to take measurable actions to minimize our hotel’s impact on the planet. Discover a few of the ways Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa is working towards becoming a leader in sustainable hospitality.

Our sustainable engagements

We encourage our guests to bring personal refillable water bottles which helps us eliminate the need for single-use plastics. We are pleased to provide water stations throughout the resort, providing cold, filtered water on demand.

Fairmont Sonoma is committed to purchasing local, organic, Fair Trade and sustainable food products wherever possible, including utilizing organic or biodynamic wines, local purveyors and on-site herb gardens. Some of our other initiatives include:

• Herb Garden / Colleague Educational Garden on Property
• Use of Loch Duarte certified fresh & sustainable farmed fish
• Purchase locally made, biodynamic wines
• Organic eggs, butter used throughout the resort

Our resort gardens not only supply fresh, natural ingredients for our restaurant dishes, but they also play a vital role in sustaining local wildlife. By growing many of our own herbs, we reduce our reliance on outside sources, ensuring the highest quality in every meal. These gardens are also a haven for pollinators like hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies, allowing these local species to thrive.

We believe our role as caretakers for our local ecosystems is vital. Our guests and colleagues work and play in locations we strive to protect for future generations.

We also support our colleagues’ growth through development and education. The Fairmont Sonoma Educational Scholarship Fund supports team members and their families in pursuing high school or college education, and/or participate in extracurricular activities that assist the pursuit of further education. We believe that limitless opportunities are for everyone. Click here to learn more about this program.

By sourcing from local farmers, vintners, and producers, we not only reduce our carbon footprint but also support the health of our community. With less transportation required, we minimize pollution and contribute to a cleaner environment. At the same time, we help fuel the local economy, fostering growth and ensuring that small businesses thrive right here in our own backyard.

Fairmont Sonoma is proud to hold a 4-Green Key designation. This recognition, awarded by Green Key Global—the leading sustainability certification program for the hotel and lodging industry—highlights Fairmont Sonoma’s national leadership and commitment to environmental stewardship. The hotel has established comprehensive programs involving management, employees, guests, and the community, which have delivered significant and measurable results.
