The Quebec Conferences 1943–1944
In 1943, at a point when the outcome of the Second World War was still far from determined, the heads of state of the principal Allied democratic nations decided to meet in Quebec City in the month of August. After the Casablanca and Atlantic councils of war, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, United States President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King decided that another tripartite conference had to be called to ensure the success of the coming military campaign. The only building that could accommodate a meeting of this magnitude was Fairmont Le Château Frontenac.

Fairmont Le Château Fronetnac has welcomed many celebrities, heads of state and royalty. For over a century, monarchs from Great Britain (King George V, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh) have graced the hotel's Royal Suite with their presence. In 1959, Le Château Frontenac named its Royal Suite, room 3151, after Queen Elizabeth II. On this occasion, a gala dinner was served on Limoges China in the Grand Ballroom for 500 guests.

Inauguration of Le Château Frontenac - 1893
Imagine it is late on the night of December 20, 1893, and that the hotel's first guests are returning from the ballroom to their rooms in the Riverview Wing. They have been listening to the Château Frontenac Quartet, specially put together for the occasion by Quebec City music teacher Renée Jacques. Try to imagine how these travellers felt, who, after arriving by train from Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa and the United States, were literally transported into another place and time They found themselves in a small corner of North America reminiscent of Europe, or at least of the castles and opulence of court life on the Continent. Imagine how overwhelmed these distinguished guests would have been by the fabulous decor, and how charmed and sated by the delicious banquet concocted for them by Henry E. Journet, the famous chef whose offerings had already graced the best tables of Paris, London and Amsterdam
