Discover
A history of Telluride.
The Native American Ute Tribe were the first to inhabit the Telluride Valley. During the summer months, they made their camps along the San Miguel River and hunted deer, elk and mountain sheep high in the mountains.
In the late 1800s the population of Telluride soared to 5,000 people with the mining boom. Miners found the mountains rich with zinc, lead, copper, iron, silver and gold. The wealth of Telluride attracted the notorious Butch Cassidy, who robbed his first bank in Telluride.
"Telluride will be one of the top ten year-round ski destions in North America"
- Ron Allred, Ski Area Developer
Today, Telluride's population is half of what it was during the mining heyday. Miners have been replaced by skiers and festivarians but the rich history of Telluride remains in tact.
Visitors from all over enjoy the picturesque town of Telluride.

Excellent location and service. Drivers, bell hops, ski valet staff all outstanding, and the location is amazing. The only negative was dealing with one concierge whose name is Sandy I believe. She was not particularly friendly in general and got especially perturbed when we asked for hot chocolate. It was as though we were inconveniencing her. Perhaps it would be better to put the hot chocolate packets in the room or out by the tea? If it’s going to be kept with the concierge, the. She should embrace that it’s part of the job and not make guests feel as though we are putting her out when we ask for some.
We own a fractional share at the Fairmont and the last two times we’ve been to the Telluride location, our interaction with the staff members, specifically the front desk, has been disappointing. We understand that check-in isn’t until 4 and we requested in advance a unit with a view and something quiet as we have a one year old. They put us in a unit directly above the pool and our entire stay was loud as everything echos from the pool so our little one had a hard time sleeping for naps and bedtime, which then throws everything off for everyone else. We had a couple different restaurant reservations and had asked the front desk their opinions in choosing and the reaction they gave to our group was as if we were inconveniencing them with our question. The overall feel was not welcoming and overall off-putting. Not sure what’s going on at this location but I expect better, especially since this is our home property where we own.

Everything was perfect until we got there and the consierge we set up suppers with failed to set them up for the week. A separate consierge was able to scramble and get us in at other resturants. Otherwise, a perfect stay.

Great place to stay, great ski valet service.
Transportation staff always great, cleaning staff etc., always nice, and helpful. Concierge staff, generally, are steadily becoming less helpful and less nice. Ski valet, always helpful and nice. The facilitates continue to decline in appearance and there is less attention to detail related to keeping things clean. For example, the grills, the spas, the area around spas, trash pickup. Staff seems less present and there seems to be little effort or intent to maintain an "ownership" feel. Rather, its feels more like a hotel where guests make a mess and care little and have no respect for facilities or other guests/owners. I have not followed what the increase in dues is intended to upgrade or redo, but I have seen few upgrades or remodels. A new couch or table, maybe a different TV. My perception, without the facts, is that guest get rooms with views and upgrades. The steamers have not worked in the rooms I have been in the last four visits—this last visit it did get fixed. We love Telluride, went to high school there, worked there, and have “family” there. We love the Klammer, great place, perfect location, great people. That all said, it seems on the downturn for owners not the up.
