Downtown on 8th (Stephen Avenue)
Just one block north of The Fairmont Palliser this is Calgary's largest and most popular shopping area which encompasses five city blocks. Along the pedestrian level of Stephen Avenue are boutique shops, restaurants, coffee houses, and of course the main department stores which include:

• The Bay
  Canada's first department store and features men's, women's, and children's fashions, plus home decor. Monday to Wednesday 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday to 8:00 p.m., Saturday to 6:00 p.m., Sunday noon to 5p.m. 
• Calgary Eaton Centre & TD Square 
  These two Calgary shopping outlets have four levels that offer accessories, sporting goods, restaurants, gifts, and services. Holt Renfrew and Harry Rosen are among the many shops you will find. Monday to Wednesday 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday to 9:00 p.m., Saturday to 6:00 p.m., Sunday noon to 5:00 p.m.  
• Penny Lane
  Two levels of specialty shops which include woman's and men's fashions, cigars, art, watches, and more. Monday to Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday to 5:30 p.m.

Eau Claire Market
This trendy indoor market is located just 15 minutes walk from the The Fairmont Palliser. This market has two levels of fashion, gifts, art, jewelry, and restaurants. For entertainment it also houses the IMAX theatre and Cineplex Odeon Cinemas. Monday to Wednesday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday to 8:00 p.m., Sunday noon to 5:00 p.m.

Chinook Centre
Newly renovated Chinook Centre is Calgary's largest shopping mall and has over 200 shops and services including Roots, Banana Republic, Gap, Old Navy, Sears, and The Bay. It is located 15 minutes drive south of  The Fairmont Palliser. Monday to Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Changes to Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST) Visitor Rebate Program
On March 19, 2007, the Government of Canada confirmed their intention to eliminate the GST/HST Visitor Rebate Program and announced the introduction of the Foreign Convention and Tour Incentive Program.
