The Burgess Shale Geoscience Foundation

GEO WALK
Would you like to experience the Burgess Shale, but are unable to join one of the guided hikes? This 90-minute program allows participants to see and learn about the well-preserved Burgess Shale fossils and how they provide clues about the environment and the processes that were going on 505 million years ago.
Participants meet their guide at the Yoho Visitor Centre in Field. The group walks to the Field School, a distance of only 600 meters. The route and destination are accessible to parents with strollers and to participants who require wheeled aids to mobility. Geo-Walk participants are invited to open a 500 million year-old rock to reveal a trilobite that can be taken home. Rock samples used in this activity originate from southeast
