Discover
Reminiscent of the hot springs that beckoned travellers over 100 years ago, the pulsating waterfalls and the mineral pool in the heart of the Banff spa soothe troubled spirits.
The Beginning
William Cornelius Van Horne had a vision to bring the beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains to the rest of the world. He commissioned blueprints for an impressive hotel to be built at the convergence of the Bow and Spray River, in what is now known as Canada's first National Park. Construction began in 1887 and the hotel publically opened on June 1, 1888.
By the start of the twentieth century, the Banff Springs luxury Hotel had developed into one of the top three mountain getaways in North America. Disaster struck in 1926 when the original wooden hotel burnt down. It was rebuilt larger and in its present appearance commencing in 1928.
Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression
Throughout the 1920s and 30s, the hotel was able to combine day-to-day hotel life with the concept of luxurious hotel living. The depression played a part in the 'golden era' as well.
Through the 1940s to 60s, the hotel struggled to reclaim the success it had before the war. The hotel went through a significant change, adapting to the economics of the time. Transportation, convenience and availability to monetary funds jointly changed the whole perspective of the hotel.
"Since we can't export the scenery, we'll have to import the tourists."
William Cornelius Van Horne
By the 70s, the hotel reached a pivotal point. For the first time, Banff Springs remained open for the winter season, becoming a year-round resort destination. The 80s then brought expansion and renovation back to the hotel.

Highly Recommend Fairmont Gold!
Beautiful location, love all the facilities on-site including restaurants, ski shop and gear storage. Only minor issue is that the bathroom is a little small.
Booked two nights for a gate away and were placed in a small attic room. Room was clean, but felt like we were tucked away in an attic. We have stayed at this hotel in the past and it was a much nicer room. But this definitely was not worth the price we paid. Will try a different place next time.
From the moment I arrived to the time I left, the service was exceptional. Every person I encountered was friendly, professional and efficient. Whether having a drink at the Rundle Bar, massage at the spa or exploring the grounds/ballrooms everyone was welcoming, the services outstanding and the surroundings formidable. The Fairmount is truly a gem set in the most picturesque of surroundings.

A lovely and comfortable room with an awesome view:)
Customer service was superb
During my recent 5-night stay at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, I was blown away by the stunning views from our 6th-floor window overlooking the golf course. Waking up to that every morning was like a dream! The bed was just right—not too soft, not too firm—and made for some seriously good sleep. And let me tell you about the Nespresso coffee—absolutely divine! It was the perfect kickstart to our days of adventure. The hotel staff were amazing—super friendly and always ready to help out. Their warm welcome made us feel right at home. We took advantage of the hiking poles and cleats they provided for our snowy trek up to the gondola, and it was epic! The snowy landscapes were straight out of a postcard. But here's the thing: the bathroom was tiny! Especially considering the price we paid for the room, we expected a bit more space to move around. Overall though, our time at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel was unforgettable. It was a perfect mix of luxury and nature, and we're already planning our next visit!
