Not up to Fairmont Standards
Staff were great (with exception of front desk management) and the restaurants/food was very good. But...when we checked in, the room we were assigned had a malfunctioning thermostat, and it was very cold when we arrived. We informed the front desk, and the front desk manager, while staying hidden in her office, refused to address the situation. She told the front desk to contact maintenance, and check on the room. I stated that "really, the room is very cold". Maintenance visited the room, came to the lobby, stated that "the window was open, should be fine now. Do you want to come to the room to check it out?"I told her "I am pretty sure the thermostat does not work". Ultimately, I was correct, and we had to change rooms. This process took almost 1-1/2 hours. As a result of the move, we were not aware that the bellhop had hung my wife's fur vest in the closet of the "cold" room, and when I moved our luggage, it was left behind. When we informed the front desk of the situation, we were told "there is a guest in that room now, we can't go in there to get your vest". I was actually told we would have to wait until the guest checked out on Monday. We are checking out the next morning, Sunday morning! And after checking back several times we were told "there is nothing we can do".
One other observation: The Fairmont brand is not well supported at this hotel. The windows in the lounge, looking out over the river, were filthy. The elevator floors were filthy. And the lobby music and activities (jugglers, ball games, loud music) were not what I would expect. The atmosphere is more like a Six Flags water park hotel than a Fairmont.
Again, great staff, poor management, and lack of attention to detail one would expect from a Fairmont.
