Discover
Reminiscent of the hot springs that beckoned travellers over 100 years ago, the pulsating waterfalls and the mineral pool in the heart of the Banff spa soothe troubled spirits.
The Beginning
William Cornelius Van Horne had a vision to bring the beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains to the rest of the world. He commissioned blueprints for an impressive hotel to be built at the convergence of the Bow and Spray River, in what is now known as Canada's first National Park. Construction began in 1887 and the hotel publically opened on June 1, 1888.
By the start of the twentieth century, the Banff Springs luxury Hotel had developed into one of the top three mountain getaways in North America. Disaster struck in 1926 when the original wooden hotel burnt down. It was rebuilt larger and in its present appearance commencing in 1928.
Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression
Throughout the 1920s and 30s, the hotel was able to combine day-to-day hotel life with the concept of luxurious hotel living. The depression played a part in the 'golden era' as well.
Through the 1940s to 60s, the hotel struggled to reclaim the success it had before the war. The hotel went through a significant change, adapting to the economics of the time. Transportation, convenience and availability to monetary funds jointly changed the whole perspective of the hotel.
"Since we can't export the scenery, we'll have to import the tourists."
William Cornelius Van Horne
By the 70s, the hotel reached a pivotal point. For the first time, Banff Springs remained open for the winter season, becoming a year-round resort destination. The 80s then brought expansion and renovation back to the hotel.

I was travelling on my own, everyone was very helpful and really looked after me
All of the staff were amazing. Food at conference was top notch. Only negative, the room was extremely small. Smallest room that I've ever had at the Springs.
We stayed from a Friday to a Monday and had a wonderful time.

Such perfection, beautiful location, excellent staff and every need for our stay met beyond expectations.
Attended a conference here. My stay was perfect. Initially I was contacted to say I was a no show and was being charged for this. It ended up being a computer glitch but it took about an hour of my time to get it sorted out.
Fantastic stay as usual. Staff are excellent. Fantastic service on the Gold floor. Amazing view from room. Since I don't know where else to include this comment - I'd like to see a change to the pet fee. The pet fee should be applied per stay, not per night. $50 per stay is an acceptable fee, there is definitely no need to charge $50 per night. I understand that the room may be deep cleaned upon departure but there is no extra service or cleaning during a stay. Please change this. Upon check out you would never know I had a dog in my room. I'm sure many guests leave larger messes behind. At $50 per night this feels like a cash grab by the hotel.
The experience at Banff Springs was incredible. There might be several points to consider: 1. If the hotel is not FULL it's not logical that the wait staff sits you far from the views (which is why we were there) You would need to tell them 2. We were charged 4 Brunches to our account which was something I HAD to check personally afterwards. This is because the way the restaurant works allows people to enter and say whichever room. 3. Rooms are very nice and renovated, the bathroom a bit small and water spilled out 4. The "Fire Pit" experience lacked service. It could be much better if they could serve you something for what you are paying.
The accommodation was amazing. The rooms were spacious and felt like home. The service within the hotel were amazing.
